The Annexe is a classic black box performance space. Often chosen for contemporary work, dance, new writing, and experimental pieces, The Annexe is perfect for shows that benefit from an immersive, flexible environment and a close connection with the audience.

The Annexe contains a backstage and stage right wing area.

Access to The Annexe
The audience enters Paradise in the Vault from Merchant Street, with the box office located on
street level. 3 steps or a lift provide access to the upper foyer, with snack bar and toilets
on this level.
Audiences leave the main foyer onto Merchant Street then access The Annexe via the Pend.
There are 5 - 6 steps in the pend then a short, narrow staircase inside the space.
The audience enters at the top and the rear of the raked auditorium. Unfortunately neither The
Annexe, nor our dressing rooms are wheelchair accessible.
Technical Specifications
Lighting
650W fresnels make up the General Cover. There is an LED colour wash comprising 4 LED Pars.
There are 3 Source4 Jr lanterns available for spotlights or gobo effects. There are additional
LED PARs providing side and back-lighting.
Control is an ETC Colorsource 20.
2025 Lighting Plan
Sound
A PA with an 8-channel mixer is available for your use. A 3.5mm minijack input is available at the technical desk in the stage left wing. An SM58 microphone and stand are provided. Radio mics can be provided at an extra cost.
Projection
A projector is hung from the grid and focussed on the back tab or a simple screen. The image is approximately 2.5m wide. 1920 x 1080 (Full HD). HDMI connection is available at the technical desk. We recommend using QLab for all video playback.
QLab
QLab 5 on a Mac Mini is available for playback of sound and projection from the technical desk.
Storage
Each show is allocated a designated storage area of roughly 1.5m x 1.5m in the stage left wing room within the space for sets, props and costumes. This area will not be accessible outside of a show’s performance slot.
